Jamie Codd rides first winner of new ‘points’ season

The new 2019-’20 point-to-point season opened at Toomebridge, Co. Antrim, this afternoon and the very first race – the four years old mares maiden – produced a Wexford 1,2,3 from six runners with the Denis Murphy owned and trained Gale At Sea – having her first outing – came home six lengths to the good under Jamie Codd.

Runner-up was the Colin Bowe trained Whiskey Lullaby ridden by Barry O’Neill with Jack Hendrick, Mayglass, on the Cormac Doyle trained Classic Lady filling the third spot.

Codd and Murphy made it a double when Yes Des Taillons scored by five lengths in the maiden race for five and six year old geldings.

Jack Hendrick and Cormac Doyle also entered the winners’ enclosure following the four year old geldings maiden race won by Annual Invictus who had two and a half lengths to spare at the finish.

Rob James got his season off to a winning start in the Winner of One race where he partnered Some Man for Fermanagh handler David Christie and came home two and a half lengths to the good.

There is more point-to-point action tomorrow (Sunday) at Castletown-Geoghegan in Co. Westmeath and Wexford stables will once again be strongly represented.

DECEMBER; Sunday, 8th, Carlow Farmers at Borris House, Borris.
