Man dies in single vehicle accident at Gorey today

A man in his late 20’s, living in Arklow, has died in a single vehicle accident which happened around 12.30 am in the townland of Clonattin Lower, on the Arklow Road, on the outskirts of Gorey town.

The man was seriously injured when a van he was the sole occupant of veered of the road and struck a ditch.

He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin where he was pronounced dead.

The scene was examined by garda forensic teams, with local diversions in place, but the road (R772) has since reopened.

The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (Gsoc) has been informed of the road crash and is conducting its own examination.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who travelled the road in the early hours this morning, particularly those who may have dash cam footage, to contact Gorey Garda Station on 053 943 0690, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.

This brings to six the number of fatalities on Wexford roads in 2019.
