Music and sheep racing at Our Lady’s Island!

OUR LADY'S ISLAND. Normally a place associated with prayer and pilgrimage, but this weekend music and sheep racing are centre stage.

The 6th Annual Leo Carthy weekend will takes place next Saturday and Sunday, opening with a Variety Concert in Our Lady’s Island Hall on Saturday at 8 pm. A great night’s entertainment is promised with performances from Danescastle music group, George Lawlor, Emma Hore, William Troy, Brendan Wickham and friends, Intro music group and Lee Bennett. 

There is also brilliant comedy and you’ll be sure of a laugh on the night with comedy from the talented Ballycogley Players. Admission: €10 with free refreshments at the interval.

Sunday starts with a 6k Fun Run at 12.30 pm, although Registration is from 11.30 am in the Community Hall; €10 for adults and €5 per child with prizes for category winners and spot prizes. Refreshments after the race and there will be kids entertainment and live music on site. 

Live music will continue on the Open-Air stage from 1 – 6 pm with various well-known local artists and a mumming exhibition by the Ballycullane Mummers at 2 pm followed by Theresa & the Stars. Refreshments available in the beautiful new coffee shop with stunning views of the island. 

Kids entertainment will include obstacle course, bouncy castle, face painting. “Finally, we are delighted to announce the return of the sheep racing this year, which was a huge hit last time round, first race at 3 pm. All proceeds to RNLI, Irish Heart Foundation and various local voluntary groups. It is going to be a massive two-day event for all the family.
