Showjumping- Patrick Hickey best placed of local riders

Coilog Equestrian Centre, in County Kildare, hosted the final leg of the Connolly’s RED MILLS Spring Tour on Sunday.

Patrick Hickey jumped clear with both Martini Van Overis Z and Quandurina in the first round. Sixteen combinations made it through to the jump off.

The Foulksmills rider set the standard with a safe clear round in 40.23 on Martini Van Overis Z. Unfortunately, his more experienced, Quandurina, picked up an unlucky pole to keep the combination out of the ribbons.

Patrick finished runner-up in the young rider section in the overall league and Martini Van Overis Z took seventh place in the line up on the day.

The penultimate leg of the Spring Tour was jumped in the Warrington Equestrian Centre, Kilkenny, on Saturday evening. Jonathan Andrew & The Hurricane finished best of the local riders, the Blackwater man took eighth place.

Michaeli Byrne, Camolin, riding King Diego, jumped clear in the first round, but had no joy in the jump off.

The action moves to the Meadows next weekend with the commencement of the Stud Book Series, the National Grand Prix, and the New Heights Series.
