Enniscorthy Municipal District Council elected members have paid tribute to the “exceptional work and effort put in by individuals and groups in a voluntary capacity” and €50,000 was distributed amongst community, voluntary and residents’ groups under this year’s funding measures.
The Chairman Cllr. Willie Kavanagh stated; “Volunteering is a powerful force for change, both for those who volunteer and for the wider community. We are more aware than ever that we cannot put a price on human endeavour and the contribution that people are making all across Enniscorthy Municipal District. The elected members highlighted the importance to invest in our people to ensure that Enniscorthy District remains a place where we all want to live.”
The Chairman thanked all present on the night in the Athenaeum Hall “for their hard work and successful community initiatives which foster a sense of community pride in our localities.”
The grant scheme is more than providing small seed funding, but provides an opportunity to publicly recognise the voluntary contribution of groups from all walks of life including youth, heritage, community, arts, enterprise and sport, to name but a few.
“The diverse range of active groups illustrates the vibrant community spirit that exists within Enniscorthy District,” concluded Cllr Kavanagh.
District Manager Liz Hore also applauded the volunteers and thanked them for their efforts and she also complimented Bernie Quigley, Margaret Kelly, Rory O’Connor and Moira O’Gorman for all their help in organising the enjoyable occasion.
