A high scoring and very entertaining game at Hollymount, saw Gusserane defeat last year’s county finalists, Kilanerin, by 5 points, in the first round, in Group A, of the Wexford Senior Football Championship.

The south Wexford team were quickest out of the blocks and they raced into a 1-02 to 0-00 score early in the game, in fact at half-time they led 3-06 to 0-08; a 7 point lead.

Kilanerin upped the tempo considerably in the second half, guilty of some horrendous wides, and they were only denied by two late Gusserane goals, one a hotly disputed penalty.
