Wexford 0-12
Waterford 5-04
The Wexford Senior Footballers, despite, outscoring Waterford, 12 scores to 9, suffered a seven point defeat, in division 4 of the Allianze Football League, this afternoon, at Innovate Wexford Park.
Last June, Waterford won their first ever championship match, as they defeated Wexford 3-14 to 1-18, many football die-hards in the county hoped that defeat could be avenged this afternoon, but as the saying goes, “it went from bad to worse”.
The game started brightly enough for the home-side as they led by 2 points after 10 minutes, 0-03 to 0-01, two from Jonathan Bealin and one from Eoghan Nolan. In the 27th minute John Tubritt cancelled out a Waterford point to leave it 0-04 to 0-02.
But two Waterford goals rocked Wexford as Fearghal O’Cuirrin and Dylan Guiry raised the green flag, the visitors had Ray O Ceallaigh dismissed between both scores.
Points from Eoghan Nolan and Jonathan Bealin left only two points between the sides at half-time 0-06 to 2-02.
The second half opened brightly for Wexford as Jonathan Bealin took a mark and slotted the ball between the posts. Waterford pointed from a free, but points from Glen Malone and Conor Carty levelled proceedings, 0-09 to 2-03 on the 50th minute.
Waterford then hit three second half goals, Fearghal O’Cuirrin for his second on 53 mins, Sean Ahearne in the 64th min, and Conor Murray on 67 mins, to send the home-side to a crashing 7 point defeat.
They still have 3 games to play in the league, next Saturday away to Wicklow, at home to Limerick on St Patricks weekend, and a difficult away trip to Derry in their final game.
