New Ross RFC presents defibrillator to Irishtown

New Ross Rugby Club has presented a public access defibrillator for the Irishtown area of New Ross.

New Ross RFC President David Burke presented a public access defibrillator to Irishtown, New Ross, at a brief ceremony last Sunday morning.
This resulted from a fundraiser carried out in April where the New Ross RFC Shockers cycle team cycled 170 km from New Ross to Kinsale.
In unveiling the defibrillator, which is sited in a high visibility location immediately adjacent to Sinnott’s Centra, Irishtown, Mr Burke thanked everyone who had been involved in any way with bringing the project to fruition.
He especially mentioned the 29 cyclists and the traveling support team and gave great thanks to all who had generously sponsored the event.
Special thanks were also given to Martin Sinnott of Centra for the use of their wall and an electrical connection for the storage box.
Previous donations from the cycle fundraiser of €5,000 had been made to Aoibheann’s Pink Tie, the National Children’s Cancer charity as well as smaller donations to five other local charities.
Mr Burke said he hoped that the defibrillator would never need to be used but indicated that the people in the area now had easy access to one if an emergency should arise.
The access code for the defibrillator box is C247 and everyone in the area is encouraged to familiarise themselves with basic CPR techniques which could save the life of a loved one.
