Today’s point-to-point action took place in Moira, Co. Down, where three of the six winners had strong Wexford connections.
There was a Wexford 1,2,3 in the maiden race for four year olds with Buck’s Bins, trained by Donnchadh Doyle for the Monbeg Syndicate, Ballindaggin, getting home in front by one length with Rob James in the saddle. Colin Bowe’s Blackstairs Lad (Barry O’Neill) and Heavey (Luke Murphy) chased him to the line.
Harley Dunne got his first win of the season aboard Peter’s Portrait, having his first run for owners Tom Power and Annette Lawlor, winning by one and a half lengths. Winning trainer Philip Rothwell, Tinahely, expects that he will go to the sales.
James Kenny, Ballydarragh, Craanford, had his 7th career winner aboard Summons To Court, owned and trained by Wexford-born trainer John Kinsella who has a yard at Rathdrum.
It was Kinsella’s first winner as a trainer and Summons To Court won the ‘older’ miaden confined to novice riders rather easily – 25 lengths!
Sunday’s point-to-point takes place at Loughrea, Co. Galway, and there is a strong entry from Wexford.
