A good crowd braved the elements to watch the quarter finals of the Connolly’s RED MILLS Easter Unraced Stake on a bitterly cold Sunday night at Enniscorthy Greyhound Track.
The opening heat produced a titanic battle between Fawn Tango and Ninja Burgess, they collided rounding the lower bends, and it was George Roche‘s “Tango” that stayed on best to stop the clock 29.47. Elite Fitz showed his liking for the inside, and stayed on strongly to take the third qualifying position.
Liberty Hawk was quickly into his stride in heat two, the unbeaten, Geniune Blake, showed nice pace to overtake the leader into the third bend and ran out a comfortable winner in 29.48, although he was helped in no small way when “Hawk” was hampered before entering the straight.
Coolside Walker had to withstand the late challenge of Ballinabola Mia by a short head to claim heat 3 in 29.59, the run to the opening bend was key to the outcome of this contest as the winner did the runner-up no favours in the early part of the race.
Boylesports Boom was all the rage in heat 4, led early on by Milltown Ridge, he stayed on strongly to win in 29.56, although it was very noticeable he dived for the rails on the opening bend, and he may be better suited to an inside berth.
The Semi-Finals will take place on Monday the 9th of April.
