Wexford handballers have been blazing a trail of glory over the past five days at the World Handball Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Three gold medals have already been secured with Mark Doyle and Josh Kavanagh winning the 15 and under wall ball doubles final after a 21-16, 21-14 victory of Mikie Kelly (Galway) and Rory Grace (Tipperary).
Gavin Buggy added to his World Championships medal haul with his first gold medal of this year’s championships as he took the honours in the 40 and over Master’s A singles. Buggy defeated Paul Graham from Antrim in the final on a 12-21, 21-14, 11-0 score line.
Mark Doyle also collected a silver medal in the 15 and under singles wall ball final, with another silver medal going to Joshua Roche from Castlebridge. Meanwhile bronze medals were secured by John Roche (Castlebridge) and Sean Nolan (Kilmyshall) in the Master’s B Wallball Doubles.
The action continues today with two more Wexford players in finals action today. In the four wall 23 and Under singles final Galen Riordan (Ballyhogue) will be gunning for glory when he meets Gabhain McCrystal from Monaghan at 3pm Irish time.
Adam Walsh (St Joseph’s) is aiming to become the second Wexford man ever to win the Men’s C Four Wall singles title as he looks to emulate the feat of Tom Connors victory in 2003. Walsh will play Leinster Junior B singles champion from 2018 Myles Carroll (Kildare) in the final at 4pm Irish time.
Ned Buggy will also go in search of a final berth as he plays Frank Cikan from the USA in the semi-final of the 70 and over singles.
