Carrig-on-Bannow becomes the music and entertainment capital of the South-East as the 27th annual Phil Murphy Weekend opens on Thursday evening and continues until Sunday with concerts, workshops, ceili, trad sessions and much more.
Organised by Bannow Folk & Traditional Society, the centre of activity is the Community Centre, however, events are spread out throughout the village and will feature local and high profile acts such as Lunasa, Luka Bloom, who is the younger brother of the great Christy Moore, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Seamus Begley and Donough Hennessy, David Munnelly Trio, Dan Broudar and Angelina Carberry, Tin Sandwich Band, Two Time Polka, Anna Falkenau, Ged Foley and Steve Sweeney, Green Road, Fergal and Diarmuid Murphy, Danescastle Music Group and many many more!
The Festival Club Marquee will also be busy and workshops for musicians will be held in the school on Saturday.
The traditional O’Riada Mass with music by the Carrig Choir will be held in the parish church and a feature at Thursday’s official opening is the launch of the annual Parish Journal.
“Each July, the historical coastal village of Carrig-on-Bannow reverberates to the sounds pf the Phil Murphy Weekend,” says the official brochure, and it adds; “This sleepy village awakens and smells the alluring aroma of great tunes wafting through the warm summer air.”
