Oulart-The Ballagh suffered a one point defeat, on a scoreline of 3-17 to 3-18, in Bellefield, on Sunday evening, in their Group B, Pettitts Senior Hurling Championship clash with Oylegate-Glenbrien.
This was a shock result for the Oulart club; bookmakers chalked them up at the prohibitive odds of 1/3, however it came as no surprise to many, as the rumblings coming from the area over recent weeks has not been good.
Many predicted their demise back in 2014 when they bowed out of the championship at the quarter final stage to Glynn-Barntown, but Frank Flannery came in, won that elusive Leinster title beating Cuala, and took Na Piarsaigh to extra time in an All-Ireland semi-final, as well as another two County finals.
Oulart now have just one point from their two games to date in Group B, Andy Moloney is at the helm this season, and with three difficult games against Naomh Eanna, Rathnure, and Ferns remaining, he must be a worried man, is it possible the once kingpins of Wexford hurling may not even make it through the group stage?
