Civil Defence to benefit from €40m plan

Emergency Planning for County Wexford

The Government has announced a €40m spending plan to support communities in Wexford and across the country, and according to Minister Paul Kehoe, the Dormant Accounts Action plan 2018 will benefit several groups including the elderly, children, the disadvantaged and volunteers.
As Minister with responsibility for Defence, Minister Kehoe contributed to the decision to ring-fence €500,000 for new Civil Defence vehicles in 2019.

“Civil Defence volunteers play a major role in Wexford and it is great to see them recognised,” the Minister said.
The Dormant Accounts Fund is used to assist those most in need in our communities and it helps to fund projects such as assisting economically, socially or educationally disadvantaged people or people with a disability in Wexford.
The Fund is resourced by the unclaimed accounts and life assurance policies in financial institutions and insurance undertakings around the country.

“This money always remains the property of its owners and they, or their beneficiaries or heirs, can reclaim their funds at any time into the future. In the meantime, the Government will put this money to good use, said Minister Kehoe, who added; “This funding will be used to cover costs like machinery, specialised equipment, refurbishment costs and vehicles, as well as capacity building costs in our local social enterprises.”
