Wexford footballers suffered a two point defeat to Waterford on a scoreline of 3-14 to 1-18 in Innovate Wexford Park to bow out of the 2018 championship.
The home side put early scores on the board, points from Donal Shanley, Ben Brosnan, John Tubritt and Eoghan Nolan gave them a 0-05 to 0-02 lead.
Shane Ryan levelled the game after 15 mins, he ran through to collect a pass and shot past Conor Swaine in the Wexford net.
Wexford took the lead again through Donal Shanley, it was short lived as Waterford took the next four points.
Waterford scored their second goal of the game in the 26th minute, but this was cancelled out by three Wexford points to leave the half time score 2-07 to 0-10.
Disaster for Wexford as the visitors scored another goal through Joe Allen who replaced the black carded Gavin Crotty.
Donal Shanley’s goal was disallowed six minutes from time- a goal here may well have salvaged the game.
The referee played six minutes of injury time to serve up a grandstand finish.
Naomhan Rossiter scored Wexford’s goal and Shanley added another 3 points from placed balls to cut the deficit to two.
