Two Wexford riders book their Dublin tickets

Jason Higgins & Kilcannon Dude booked their Dublin ticket at Scarteen

Two Wexford riders had fantastic results at the opening leg of the Young Event Horse Series at Scarteen, County Limerick, on Wednesday, and booked their tickets for this years Dublin Horse Show. Forty horses competed in the 4yo section and vyed for the five qualifying places on offer for RDS in August.

Ann Lambert & Killinick Miss Ellie took the runner-up spot in their section, the 4yo bay mare is by Hermes de Reve, out of the Master Imp mare, Ozy Queen, owned by the rider, and was bred by Jason Reck, Oylegate.

Jason Higgins & Kilcannon Dude also filled the runner-up berth in their section, the 4yo bay gelding is by Tolan out of the Rich Rebel mare, bred by Cathal Lyons, Co Galway, and owned by Mary Bolger, Tomnalossett. In fact Mary and Jason have won the final of this class in the Dublin Horse Show with My Kilcannon Annie in 2016, and Kilcannon High Society in 2015, and this year’s charge, on the evidence of yesterday’s performance won’t be far away come August.

There are only four qualifiers held around the country, next Tuesday the action moves to Forth Mountain, near Barntown, with the remaining legs are Tullylish, Co Armagh, on Wednesday the 20th of June, and Rincoola, County Longford, on Tuesday the 26th of June.

The Horse Sport Ireland sponsored competition has several aspects to the class, dressage, showjumping, cross country and the horses’ conformation is also accessed.

The aim of the class is to identify high class horses bred in Ireland with the potential to become top class eventers, to create a medium for breeders and producers, to display their quality young stock and to encourage breeders and trainers to produce and present the correct type of horse likely to make a top class three-day eventer.

Paulank Brockagh (ISH) and Mighty Nice (ISH) competed in this class as young horses and both won medals in Eventing at the Rio Olympics.
