Units of Gorey Fire Service were quick on the scene but their best efforts were in vain and the building was destroyed.
The business had not been active for about five years.
Cllr Pip Breen said “It its sad to see it go, but it had been challenging for the Tidy Towns’ efforts in the village.”
There was a public house on the site for generations and many families ran the business which was thriving, particularly during the holiday season.
It was called ‘The Thatch’ into the 1970’s, but it was destroyed in a fire, and when rebuilt around the millennium gained huge popularity trading as the Macamore Inn.
It has been closed for about five years, but it was always hoped locally that it could reopen at some stage and enhance the social life of the village.
