Passing of Wexford Hurling Great Pat Nolan

The death has occurred of Wexford goalkeeping great and 3 time All Ireland medal winner, Pat Nolan of Oylegate Glenbrien.

One of the most decorated hurlers in Wexford history, Pat made 36 championship appearances in the purple and gold between 1958 and 1974, and a further 126 appearances in other competitions. At the time of his intercounty retirement in 1974, this total of 162 competitive appearances for Wexford left him at the top of the list, in what was a remarkable career of excellence and longevity.

During that distinguished career Pat won the following honours:

Wexford:

All Ireland Hurling Championship: 1956 (sub), 1960, 1968

Leinster Hurling Championship: 1956 (sub), 1960, 1962, 1965, 1968, 1970

National Hurling League: 1958, 1967, 1973

Oylegate Glenbrien:

Wexford Senior Hurling Championship: 1963

Wexford Intermediate Hurling Championship: 1959

Wexford Junior Hurling Championship: 1955

Leinster:

Railway Cup Hurling: 1964, 1965, 1971, 1974

In an interview with WexfordToday in 2019, his former Wexford teammate Eddie Kelly said:

“I don’t think you could get a goalman as cool and as calm as Pat Nolan, and that came out into the players. He’d give you a piece of advice, without shouting at you.”
