Wexford 3-08
Carlow 2-09
Wexford advanced to an Eirgrid Leinster Quarter Final tie with Meath next Saturday following their 2 point victory over Carlow in St Patrick’s Park on Friday night.
It took an injury-time goal from Blackwater’s, Mossy Murphy, to rescue the game, and this was added to from a Column Feeney placed ball to hand the home side a two-point victory.
Wexford raced into a 1-01 to 0-00 lead, Paudie Hughes slotted the ball to the back of the net following a well placed Liam Coleman hand pass. The Carlow keeper made two great saves in the first half, at the break the home side led 1-03 to 0-04.
Todd Hynes was pulled down early in the second half, once again Kuba Budzisz rescued his side to deny the resulting penalty. Another good Wexford move saw Diarmuid Barry score Wexford’s second goal.
Shane Pettit’s lofted pass found the onrushing, Todd Hynes, his shot was once again turned around the post by the Carlow keeper.
A goalmouth melee saw Carlow reduce the deficit as the visitors goaled, shortly after Cathal O’Neill converted a well-worked Carlow move to send them ahead for the first time in the game.
A very entertaining game of football in very difficult conditions, an amazing result, considering that the sides met in January in the League, and Carlow handed out a 2-19 to 0-6 thrashing to Wexford in Netwatch Cullen Park.
