Enniscorthy’s ladies first XI continued what is looking like a remorseless march towards a second league title in as many years as they beat UCD at Belfield on Saturday in Division 6.

Enniscorthy started off strongly, claiming a goal in the first seven minutes of the first quarter, with a pass from Ciara Kelly finding Niamh Ogilvie in midfield. Ogilvie then passed to Niamh Rochford in the circle, and Rochford finished to the net.

The second goal came from Aoife Mahon who entered the circle, attacking the sideline on the right-hand side of the pitch and reverse hitting the ball, causing it to bounce into the goal on the far post.

The third and final goal came from Leah Kidd who worked the ball up along the left-hand side of the pitch’s sideline, beating a number of defenders before taking a final shot. Enniscorthy had a number of attacking penalty corners throughout, only conceding two defensive penalty corners to the hosts.

The connection between the defenders, to the midfielders to the forwards, was really good resulting in a number of circle entries. Despite the slow, sandy pitch, Enniscorthy worked really hard to remain top of the table, giving Norah McGinty another week with a clean sheet.

Enniscorthy L1 remain 5 points clear
