Bray 0
Enniscorthy 3
Enniscorthy’s ladies second XI traveled to Loreto Bray on Saturday to face Bray in their Division 11-13 first-round cup match.
The visitors started strongly with a goal from Caoimhe Larkin assisted by Martha Dunne on the right-wing. The hosts found the link play between Amy D’Alton up the right-wing to Eleanor Bolger hard to deal with.
The score was doubled just before the quarter was ended with a penalty corner won by Lisa Freyne. A straight strike from Martha Dunne at the top of the circle was saved by the goalkeeper but Freyne was quickest to the ball, scoring on the rebound.
Enniscorthy had most of the play in the second quarter but just could not add to their score, with Amy Murphy and Ciara Murphy putting great pressure on the Bray defence. Down the other end, the hosts had a chance of their own, earning a penalty corner but it was defended well by Kelly Robinson.
Overall there was an assured defensive performance from Amy D’Alton, Ailbhe Harrington, Kelly Robinson, Aine O’Brien, and Saoirse Power, meaning Bray were kept at bay and away from goalkeeper Ellen Creed. As the final quarter came great work from the midfield trio of Alice Kelly, Laura Redmond and Hannah Neville in midfield found Dervla Walsh who had a one on one with the goalkeeper and scored.
Enniscorthy came out on top with a great 3-0 victory over a strong Bray side. Dublin North or Carlow await in the second round, while it’s Rathgar – just one place above in Division 11 – away on Saturday in the league.
Squad: Ellen Creed, Amy Dalton, Kelly Robinson, Aine O’Brien, Ailbhe Harrington, Laura Redmond, Eleanor Bolger, Alice Kelly, Caoimhe Larkin, Lisa Freyne, Martha Dunne, Amy Murphy, Ciara Murphy, Saoirse Power, Hannah Neville, Dervla Walsh.
