There is always a sense of anticipation and excitement amongst the loyal point-to-point fraternity when a new track is put to the test and the Wexford Hunt races, which are usually held at Ballinaboola, have moved venue this year and the six-race card will be hosted at Knockmullen House just outside New Ross, on Sunday.
There
is a seasonally satisfactory number of entries of 105 and the first race is off
at 12 noon. Admission is €10.
Hunt secretary Brigid O’Gorman confirmed; “Preparations are going well, there is plenty
of work going on over at the track, the fences arrived and are in place. There
has been a lot of rain this week, but the track was inspected yesterday (Friday)
by the Turf Club.” As a result the going is described as “yielding to soft,
soft in places.”
She added; “We will have a chip van on the day, along with our own refreshment tent. The catering committee will have a variety of fair on offer, with donations going to a local charity.”
