Government Fuel Cut Makes Little Difference

The cheapest in the Enniscorthy area is the Circle K filling station at Mr Price

WexfordToday.com surveyed all garages in the Enniscorthy area on the evening of the 9th of March and the morning of the 10th of March to see if the government fuel cuts have been passed on to consumers at the pump.

From midnight on the 9th of March, the Government reduced excise duties being charged on petrol by 20cent per litre, and on diesel by 15 cent per litre.

Here is our comparison for Petrol:

Garage:8th of March (5-5.30pm)9th of March (9-9.30am)Difference
Circle K, Templeshannon199.9 198.9 – 1 cent
Top Oil, Island Road199.9 199.9 no change
Maxol, Bellefield204.9 204.9no change
McSorley’s, Milehouse204.9 204.9no change
McSorley’s, Quarry Park204.9 204.9no change
Top Oil, Drumgold205.9 205.9no change
Top Oil, Tomnalossett205.9 205.9no change
Cooney Furlong, Old Dublin Road209.9 204.9 – 5 cent

Only 2 out of the 8 petrol garages in the Enniscorthy town area are showing a reduction. Cooney Furlong were already the most expensive by far, so their reduction of 5 cent just brings them in line with the average. Circle K in Templeshannon were the other to drop petrol prices, becoming the cheapest outright.

Here is our comparison on diesel:

Garage:8th of March (5- 5.30pm)9th of March (9-9.30am)Difference
Circle K, Templeshannon199.9 198.9– 1 cent
McSorley’s, Milehouse204.9 204.9no change
McSorley’s, Quarry Park204.9 204.9no change
Top Oil, Drumgold205.9 205.9no change
Maxol, Bellefield209.9 209.9no change
Top Oil, Island Road209.9 209.9no change
Cooney Furlong, Old Dublin Road209.9 204.9– 5 cent
Top Oil, Tomnalossett210.9 210.9no change

Again with diesel we see the same two garages dropping their prices with the other 6 remaining the same.

The cheapest overall by far is the Circle K filling station in Templeshannon, beside Mr Price. They are the only outlet with prices of both petrol and diesel under €2 per litre, and one of only two garages to reduce their prices overnight. It is worth noting that this particular outlet is the only one without a shop to supplement their income. They rely only on their profits from fuel, yet still manage to be the cheapest around the area.
