New jersey releases are eagerly anticipated by hoards of supporters who want their the county team’s image to be the envy of others. In this day and age, much attention is paid to the way intercounty Gaelic Games teams are turned out.
Most clubs and counties pay great attention to ensure their teams are wearing gear during games that is well presented, well matched and well designed.
With this in mind, surely supporters of Wexford Ladies Football are waiting in eager anticipation for a new jersey/shorts/socks combination to replace the current abomination seen last season and in yesterday’s league opener against Kildare.
If there are prizes going for the worst intercounty jersey/shorts/socks combination then surely this set up would make it to the top of any shortlist:

The yellow jerseys used in last September’s All Ireland final were, in fairness, slightly less awful:

The first round of the Lidl National League took place on Sunday in Hollymount and unfortunately the winning margin was a wide one for visitors Kildare, who ran out winners on a scoreline of 3-11 to 0-08.
The absence of matchday programmes proved an early source of frustration for the spectators.
Having sought clarification on the issue from the LGFA, we received the following response:
“Please note it is up to the Home County to arrange a programme should they wish to for all Lidl NFL matches”
The game itself saw Wexford field an experimental line up, giving an opportunity to a number of different players, with only 5 starters from last years All Ireland final starting last Sunday.
It came to life when an early goal from Neasa Dooley set Kildare on their way to a commanding half time lead, with Wexford only managing a solitary score from the boot of Caitriona Murray in the opening half. Half time score, Wexford 0-01 Kildare 1-06.
Kildare found the net for a second time only seconds after the start of the second half before a third goal left the scoreline 0-01 to 3-07.
Five second half points from substitute Amy Wilson helped close the gap to 12 points by the end but by that stage the final result was inevitable.
Wexford team on the day: Deirdre Fox, Ciara Neville, Aisling Halligan (0-01), Amy Walsh, Orlagh Kehoe, Niamh Cloke Rochford, Anne Byrne, Roisin Murphy, Laura Bruen, Sherene Hamilton, Caitriona Murray (0-01 free), Ellen O’Brien, Emma Tompkins, Aisling Murphy (0-01), Aoife Cullen. Subs used: Amy Wilson (0-5, 0-4 frees), Tara Doyle, Bernie Breen, Cathy O’Brien, Fiona Bennett, Donna Delahunty, Abbie O’Connor.
Wexford face Wicklow in Aughrim this coming Sunday at 2pm in round 2.
