The passing has been announced of Rathnure man Seamus Barron, an All Ireland hurling winner from 1968 and a selector with Liam Griffin in 1996 when Wexford last triumphed in the All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship.

At the time of his death Seamus was the President of his beloved Rathnure St Anne’s GAA Club, who describe him as ‘a great servant both on and off the field’.

In addition to his All Ireland winners medal from 1968, Seamus also has an All Ireland Under 21 winners medal from 1965 and an All Ireland Minor medal from 1963, along with Wexford Senior Hurling Championship medals with his club Rathnure in 1967, 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1974.

He was part of the management team for Rathnure’s success in the 86, 87 and 1990 county championships. Subsequently, he linked up with Liam Griffin and Rory Kinsella to guide the Wexford Senior Hurlers to All Ireland glory in 1996, before being part of the Rathnure management team to lead their side to the All Ireland club hurling final in 1999.
