After 5 years in the position of Wexford Senior Hurling Manager, Davy Fitzgerald has informed the county board that he will step down from the role.
Fitzgerald said:
“I have informed the county board that I will not be in a position to continue in my role as Bainisteoir of the Wexford Senior hurling team. The main reason for this is the 6 hour round trip from my home in Sixmilebridge, which I have done for the last 5 years.
I have never felt happier or closer with any team in all my years coaching and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of my 5 years in Wexford.
It has been an absolute privilege and an honour to have worked with every one of the players in my time in Wexford.”
No doubt the highlight of Fitzgerald’s tenure was the 2019 Leinster title, having defeated Kilkenny in Croke Park.
The search will now be on to find a replacement for Fitzgerald before the panel begin their winter training.
