More details have emerged this week about how the decision was made not to stream races from Enniscorthy Greyhound track, as we previously reported – Enniscorthy Track Not Permitted to Live Stream | WexfordToday.com
It has emerged that consultations between ‘Enniscorthy Greyhound RacingCompany’ and ‘Greyhound Racing Ireland’ took place, and it was agreed not to go the streaming route. It is mind boggling that track directors would take such a decision, especially when one notes that many of those directors have successful business careers of their own, and would surely have seen the merits of such a venture.
There may well be further details to emerge about why such a decision was
made, but so far our attempts to find such details have been unsuccessful.
The revenue raising potential of streaming greyhound racing from
Enniscorthy, is estimated to have been worth a substantial five figure sum to the track. However, in correspondence seen by WexfordToday, it emerged that part of the agreement not to stream, was that Greyhound Racing Ireland would provide Enniscorthy track with an improved audio capability and would work on sourcing an alternative camera (this has yet to materialise) to improve the picture quality.
Improved audio capability and a superior camera would of course be an addition, but in no way would these additions be able to replace the revenue which would have been earning through streaming races.
One suspects that there may be more than meets the eye to this
‘arrangement’, considering that Greyhound Racing Ireland are launching their own streaming service from Shelbourne Park next Saturday night, while at the same time disapproving of Enniscorthy doing the same.
