Taghmon Jockey Seán O’Keeffe became the 3rd Wexford jockey to win at this week’s Cheltenham festival.
Riding Galopin Des Champs in the Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle, O’Keeffe was very calm and almost motionless until clearing the last.
Watch the finish here:
There was yet again mixed emotions for Jonathan Moore. Vanillier won the Albert Bartlett Novices hurdle and but for injury Moore would have been the jockey. Unfortunately a back injury meant that for the second day in a row he missed out on a Cheltenham winner.
The second placed horse in the Albert Bartlett was Oscar Elite who started his career with Cormac Doyle. In fact both Vanillier and Oscar Elite ran in the same point to point in 2019.
Jordan Gainford earned another second place finish in the County Hurdle on Petit Mouchoir, before finishing 8th on Frontal Assault in the Martin Pipe, in what was a memorable week for him.
Daryl Jacob finished 6th in the Triumph Hurdle on Tax for Max, 15th in the County Hurdle on Saint D’oroux, 12th in the Albert Bartlett on The Cob, 8th in the Gold Cup on Aso, and unfortunately fell in the Mares Chase on Zambella.
JJ Slevin finished 19th in the County Hurdle, 5th in the Mares Chase on Moyhenna
Crossabeg trainer Liz Doyle’s only Cheltenham runner, Cayd Boy, finished 13th in the County hurdle.
