The Cathaoirleach of Wexford County Council, Councillor Ger Carthy has this afternoon opened an on-line Book of Condolences to provide an opportunity for the public to sympathise with the family of the late Mr. John Hume, former SDLP leader, and Nobel Laureate.
The Book of Condolences is available at this link https://consult.wexfordcoco.ie/en/content/book-condolences-mr-john-hume and will remain open until Friday 14 August. Members of the public wishing to sign the Book of Condolences can do so at any time by visiting the above link.
“Mr. John Hume’s contribution to Irish history has been immense and his legacy of bringing peace to the island of Ireland is one that will live long in the memory of people the world over”.
“It is appropriate that Wexford County Council opens this Book of Condolence and in doing so provide a tangible opportunity to the public of County Wexford and further afield to express and record their sympathy.”
“I have no doubt that this Book of Condolence will also provide much needed consolation and comfort to Mr. Hume’s family at times when it is needed most – Mar sé ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine” concluded Councillor Carthy.”
