Wexford native, Jamie Rath, decided to take on the challenge of a lifetime to raise funds for the Samaritans – Waterford and South East.
The #CalendarClubChallenge required Jamie to run 496 kilometers or 11 and a half marathons during May. That’s 1km incrementally for each day of the month.
Jamie says
“There’s no doubt that the past couple of months have been the most testing in recent memory. With the passing of loved ones, unemployment on the rise, and the stress and strain of dealing with a world turned on its head, there is no doubt that we must be more aware than ever of our physical and mental health. Unfortunately, suicide in Ireland is still the 17th highest rate in Europe and the 4th highest for males aged 15–24 years old.”
“That’s why I decided to take on the #CalendarClubChallenge to raise much-needed funds for Samaritans Waterford and South East. If you’re not aware of who Samaritans are, they are a non-profit organization that supports those most in need with a helpful and caring voice 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”
Jamie raised nearly €6000 for the organisation. Samaritans would like to offer our sincere gratitude to Jamie and to all those who donated.
These funds will keep help to keep our service open for those in need. You can free phone Samaritans on 116 123 or email us at jo@samaritans.ie. Samaritans are available 24 hours a day.
