The thoroughbred industry in the country is baffled by the failure of NPHET and the government to give the green light to horse racing.
German racing returns to action tomorrow and French authorities have given their go-ahead for next Monday. Horse Racing Ireland has already proved racing can be run behind closed doors, but in last Friday’s plan, easing restrictions, racing is unlikely to return until the end of June.
The multi-billion-euro thoroughbred industry employs almost 30,000 people in the country and is a vital part of rural Wexford.
We spoke to Peter Nolan, the country’s leading consigner of National Hunt horses, from his base in Oylegate, this afternoon.
