Glynn-Barntown Girls Take On The 7 Summits

Glynn Barntown camógs have set themselves a new target. In a novel fundraising venture the girls have taken on the 7Summits 7Days challenge as a fundraiser for the local Hope Cancer Support Centre in Enniscorthy.

The seven summits are the highest mountains in each of the seven continents and climbing to the summit of all of them is considered a mountaineering challenge. The Glynn Barntown girls would normally be preparing for camogie club championship at the moment but have decided to put this unexpected ‘downtime’ to good use and aim to run the equivalent distance (each girl running 43.315 km within 7 days), all within the current 2km limits of their homes.

Everest, Aisia (8848m); Aconcagua, Sth America (6962m); Mt McKinley, Nth America (6193m); Kilimanjaro, Africa (5892m); Elbrus, Europe (5642m); Vinson Massif, Antartica (4892m); Carstensz Pyramid (Puncak Jaya), Oceania (4884m)

The routes around Glynn might not be a hilly as the routes around Barntown (Ballindinas Hill is a tough one!!) but regardless the same distance will be covered! Everyone will be running together, but apart! starting on Monday 4th May, and finishing on Sunday 10th May.
