Cllr Brídín Murphy has welcomed the grant for over 70s that has been launched by age action in conjunction with the Irish Red Cross. The purpose of the grant is to respond to the immediate needs of those who are cocooning as a result of COVID 19.

Cllr Murphy who has received numerous phone calls about the grant explained that,

“it is a once-off payment of up to €500 per person/household affected. Additionally, family members or carers supporting an older person, local voluntary organisations or community groups and social workers can apply for the grant.”

“The grant covers household maintenance, appliances and the provision of technical equipment such as smartphones. It also may serve as a contribution towards increased energy costs or telephone bills, travel costs or food provisions.”
