24 year old, Denis Constantin, Mile House Road, Enniscorthy, has become the first person to be charged under new regulations introduced last week in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
Originally from Romania, but now residing in Enniscorthy, he appeared before Gorey District Court today. Judge Brian O’Shea remanded the accused in custody pending his next court appearance scheduled for Tuesday.
He was charged with two breaches of the Health Act 1947 (Section 31A -Temporary Restrictions – COVID-19 Regulations 2020).
Although living in Enniscorthy, Mr Constantine was stopped at checkpoints by Gardaí in both Bunclody (Saturday) and New Ross (Monday). It is alleged that he was more than 2km from home on both occasions without a valid reason.
He is also charged with driving while disqualified, and driving with no licence or insurance.
