Coronavirus Confirmed in Wexford

The inevitable news that we have a confirmed case of the Coronavirus in Co.Wexford has been reported this evening.

The People Newspapers have reported a confirmed case of a female believed to be from the Gorey area, who presented to the hospital with the relevant symptoms. It has been reported that she has since tested positive.

Rumours began circulating on Sunday night, that such a case had been discovered, while there are unconfirmed reports that there is more than one case in Wexford Hospital. This perhaps explains the introduction of the strict visitor regulations which we reported on Sunday.

The Department of Health policy thus far is not to name specific locations of positive cases. The Health Protection Surveillance Centre did confirm however there are 54 new cases in Ireland bringing the total to 223, while approximately 1300 cases are expected to be confirmed by the end of the week.

The advice from the HSE to anyone experiencing symptoms of the virus is NOT to present to a GP or Hospital but rather to self-isolate and phone your GP, at which point you will be assessed over the phone.
