Wexford off to a good start in the Camogie

Wexford eventually kicked off their opening game in the Littlewoods Ireland Camogie Leagues Div 2 campaign Tralee with a comfortable 11 point win over Kerry.

Chloe Foxe gave Wexford a fantastic start, she raised a green flag in the first minute. Bunclody’s Kate Kirwan quickly added 1-1. Patrice Diggin converted a free for Kerry’s opening score, Chloe Foxe did likewise before Diggin added to the Kerry tally.

Shelly Kehoe added two points from play before Julianne O’Keeffe goaled for the home side. Chloe Foxe increased the margin from a placed ball shortly after. Late in the half Wexford were reduced to fourteen players as Foxe saw red. Linda Bolger got on the score sheet, Diggin canceled this out, and Kehoe took the final point before to break to leave the visitors in front, 2-07 to 1-03.

Wexford played with the aid of a strong breeze in the second half, points were traded, Diggin with 3 for Kerry, Bolger and Sarah O’Connor with one each before Kate Kirwan scored her second goal of the game. Leah Walsh and another from Bolger saw Wexford account for Kerry by a comfortable 11 points.

The girls face a long trip to Derry at the weekend for their second league fixture.
