The Third Count has just been announced. Brendan Howlin and James Browne moved closer to being elected, however only 181 votes are separating four candidates – Verona Murphy 6,664; Michael D’Arcy 6,610; Malcolm Byrne 6,541 and Paul Kehoe 6,483.
Sinn Fein’s Johnny Mythen was formally elected on the First Count. He polled a massive 18,717 first preferences to become the first Sinn Fein candidate elected in Wexford for 102 years. That was Sean Etchingham from Riverchapel and the last time a General Election was held on a Saturday.
