Former North End Utd and Wexford Albion goalkeeper, Shay O’Leary, lined out for Ireland’s U-15 team, that lost out on a 2-0 scoreline, on Thursday afternoon, in the UEFA Development Tournament in Spain to the host nation.
Shay signed for Shamrock Rovers in Dublin shortly after winning the U-14 Cup final in Wexford.
It was the first defeat of the season for the Irish side. They may well have taken the lead in the game as early as the sixth minute, created several other chances, as well as having a penalty claim waved away by the referee, but two first-half goals from Deportivo La Curuna and Real Madrid players gave the home side the win.
Despite conceding the two goals, O’Leary had a good game in goal pulling off several fines saves.
In their next game Ireland play the Netherlands, in Pinatar Arena, Murcia, Spain, on Saturday at 3pm, Irish time, and on Monday they play the Czech Republic, at the same venue at 12 noon, Irish time.
