Verona Murphy welcomed the announcement by Brittany Ferries to commence a service from Rosslare to Bilbao twice a week and once a week (during peak season) to Roscoff, with a note of caution.
Verona said, “This new service is the fruit of the much publicised IRHA lead initiative under my Presidency. I facilitated discussions in Le Havre on October 4th with Harpoa, Le Havre Port operators, the Department of Transport, Brittany Ferries, the IRHA and Rosslare Euro Port. No politicians nor political candidates other than myself attended this meeting”
“I want to take this opportunity to thank the IRHA, Glen Carr, Rosslare Euro Port, and Steve Aldred of Brittany Ferries for their contributions”
“While this announcement is welcome, it is by no means a game-changer. The new service is very much dependent on freight volume and I have impressed upon the haulage fraternity the importance of using this route where possible”
“This new service will contribute in a not insignificant way towards increased traffic volumes for the Port”
“I said in October after our trip to Le Havre that the game changer for Rosslare would be a service between Rosslare and Le Havre, unfortunately, this has not happened yet, but I will continue to work on securing this service”
