Saturday saw the Wexford U12 (5th/6th) group travel to Kilkenny College for a blitz with Kilkenny HC and Carlow HC. Wexford fielded 3 teams on the day.
This was Wexford’s second trip to Kilkenny this season and the players showed real improvement in their play from their previous outing. The players defended really well and scored some great goals. The three teams excelled on the day and their results were brilliant. Thanks to coaches Sinéad, Aideen, Jilly and Trish.
Sunday morning saw Wexford 1st Years host Bray. The Wexford side worked well as a unit and were denied several times by some excellent goalkeeping from the Bray goalkeeper. Wexford finally broke the deadlock with a great finish from Kaylee Walsh who picked her spot and slotted it past the Bray keeper. The Wexford 1st Year side showed great grit, work rate, skill and resolve throughout the game and it was overall a great team performance with a special mention to Grace O’Connor who anchored the defence brilliantly.
Sunday afternoon saw both Wexford U16 teams in action. Wexford 2nds U16 Team took on second-placed in the league Railway Union at home. It was a well-contested game from the start but Wexford had to soak up the initial pressure from the visitors with Wexford’s Cerys Thompson doing well in goal. Nonetheless, the visitors took the lead with some nice team play. Wexford rallied again and the midfield of Ciara Kavanagh, Sophie Byrne and Sarah Taffe worked tirelessly as the whole team put in a great effort. Railway once again scored from play and then once again before half time from a well taken short corner. Wexford, however, came out strong in the second half and at centre of defence Dara Kelly and Sally Barrett made it very difficult for the opposition. It was a much better half for the home team and they were unlucky to concede one more goal towards the end of the game.
Wexford U16 Firsts were away to Muckross and secured a 1-0 victory
