Guaranteed places in Gorey Community School and Creagh College next September

Following consultation between Gorey Community School and Creagh College, with negotiations facilitated by Minister Michael D’Arcy TD and Kevin Lewis, CEO of WWETB, it has been agreed for all pupils who have applied to both schools that a place will be available for September 2020.

 The Boards of Management of both schools have met and agreed to take all pupils who are currently on waiting lists. Both waiting lists have been assessed and additionally, the accommodation needs have also been assessed.

 Creagh College have capacity for these additional pupils in their existing premises. Gorey Community School will be provided with the necessary resources for further classrooms to facilitate what is needed. Members of the Board of Management from Gorey Community School met Minister D’Arcy and Minister for Education Joe McHugh, where it was agreed that the additional accommodation would be provided.

 Gorey Community School Principal, Michael Finn, said: “Gorey Community School are happy to be able to reach a successful decision, which now eases concerns for both parents and pupils for post-primary education in September 2020.

Paul Glynn, Principal of Creagh College, said: “We are delighted to move things along, and this will facilitate each pupil who has applied with a place for September 2020.

Kevin Lewis, CEO of WWETB, said: “As patron of Creagh College and joint patron of Gorey Community School, I was delighted to be in a position to coordinate the agreement of both schools, ensuring all pupils who have applied will have a place in September 2020.”

 “I would like to thank the Boards of both schools, the patrons, the WWETB and the Sisters of Loreto for this positive outcome. All pupils are now guaranteed a place in either Gorey Community School or Creagh College this year,” said Wexford  TD Minister Michael D’Arcy, who concluded; “I was involved in negotiations regarding this issue and appreciate the reasonableness in which all parties have operated in the interests of pupils. I wish to thank Minister McHugh who we met with before Christmas at short notice for his input into the matter which has resulted in a successful outcome.”
