Significant progress has been made on the long-awaited Market House project on Gorey’s Main Street where a fully funded package is now in place and development on the landmark site could start within three months.
Speaking to WexfordToday.com Minister Michael D’Arcy announced the news this morning and released detailed plans that could see the new multi-purpose mini-arena 1,500-seat venue open its doors as soon as March 2021.
“Significant progress has been made with the Market House project, and I am delighted to announce that a fully funded package is now in place contingent upon the conclusion of the local authority process,” said Minister D’Arcy, who added; “The Market House project will encompass three key targets that I consider extremely important. Firstly, the building will always remain in public ownership. Secondly, the historical relevance of the structure will remain intact, and finally this project will ensure community use.”
Based upon the successful Vicar Street performance venue in Dublin, Gorey’s venue will facilitate a variety of uses from small scale concerts and musicals to larger art exhibitions, trade conventions and cultural community events.
The local business community and Chamber of Commerce have previously estimated the value of this project to the Gorey area at a potential estimate of €30 million per annum, with the additional benefits of huge increase in footfall in the town centre.
Harry Crosbie, who is a participant in the agreed package for the Market House Project, stated; “The Three Arena, which I founded, is recognised as one of the best venues in the world. My ambition is to replicate this in the South East, with the Market House/Vicar Street South venue in Gorey, with this venue becoming a world leader as a multi-purpose mini area.”
The Redmond Brothers, a long-established local family business with a proven track record in the hospitality sector, said; “We are delighted to be involved in developing this hugely exciting venue for Gorey and the South East in partnership with Wexford County Council and Harry Crosbie.”
Minister D’Arcy concluded; “The Market House Project is something that I have been championing for a number of years, and it is fantastic to see the vision and hard work of everyone involved coming to fruition. Ultimately, this important project will facilitate the continued development of Gorey as a thriving town and provide a boost to the local economy. Numerous jobs will be created, and the project will not just benefit the people and businesses of Gorey, but it will also benefit the county of Wexford and beyond.”
