In the fourth of our “Legends” series, Peter Mernagh spoke to one of the great Buffers Alley players, Tom Dempsey.
Tom played a huge part in Wexford’s 1996 All-Ireland victory; in the Leinster final against Offaly, he scored a goal and five points, in the All- Ireland semi-final against Galway he scored six points, and in Wexford’s 1-13 to 0-14 victory over Limerick the Buffers Alley man was responsible for a goal and three points.
As a club player with Buffers Alley, he won eight county finals, three Leinster finals, and they became the only Wexford side ever to win an All-Ireland Club Championship in 1989, on St Patrick’s Day they beat O’Donovan Rossa, 2-12 to 0-12.
