Clontarf 0
Ennscorthy 4
Enniscorthy’s ladies first XI had an important win away to Clontarf on Saturday to put them top of Division 6.
An early tip off didn’t faze the Slaneysiders as they quickly took control of the game. Clontarf set out to contain the Enniscorthy side and were difficult to break down. However, some lively zig-zag play up the middle through Niamh Ogilvie opened up gaps for the forwards to run onto, but the visitors were unlucky not convert any of these chances. It wasn’t long, though, before Enniscorthy bagged their first goal of the morning through left-back Jessie Flood from a rebound off the Clontarf keeper. This goal spurred the Slaneysiders on, all of whom were hungry for more goals. Enniscorthy continued to pressure Clontarf, intercepting many of their hit-outs but the Wexford side were unable to finish a host of opportunities presented.

The second half started well for the visitors with Enniscorthy’s forward line causing trouble for the home defence. There were penalty corners galore for the Slaneysiders but none were converted. Enniscorthy’s second goal came from a well-worked phase of play. A Laura Smith pass up the middle found Deane Lodewyks, who slotted home a brilliant back stick goal. There was no slowing down the Enniscorthy side following this, with another goal this time coming from some top-class play by left-wing Leah Kidd. Enniscorthy had all the possession in the second half, with keeper Norah McGinty only being called on once, clearing an incoming ball at ease. Player of the match Aoife Mahon controlled midfield in the final quarter of the game, gifting Rebecca Ogilvie a pinpoint accurate pass allowing Ogilvie to slot home a brilliantly finished goal.

This 4-0 win for Enniscorthy puts them top of the table going into the final game before the Christmas break – a first versus second clash away in Santry to unbeaten Trinity College – on Saturday.
