The parish of Kilmore marked its Christmas celebrations with the switching on of the lights at St. Mary’s Church in the village and the launch of the 48th annual Kilmore Parish Journal in the Stella Maris Centre, Kilmore Quay, both notable events occurred last Friday night.
The honour of launching the current Journal fell to Tony Power, retired principal of Bridgetown Vocational College, and it proved to be an inspiring choice. Mr Power spoke about the longevity of the Journal and its contribution to archiving decades of happenings, history and changing times in the coastal village.
Seamus O’Keeffe,
Chairman of the Journal Committee told the fine attendance that the committee “though
it fitting that Tony Power should be invited as the Vocational College features
prominently in this year’s journal and who better to perform the honours than a
person who has been at the forefront of building up the college to what it is
today.”
The front cover of issue 48 of the publication features
an aerial photo of Bridgetown Vocational College and the Kilmore World of Work
is Fortune’s Potato Harvester. The Kilmore Parish Journal, edited by Seamus O’Brien,
comprising 196 pages of articles, photos and information, is on sale at usual
outlets, at a modest cost of €12.
