Seal Rescue Ireland is a national charity currently catering for 36 sick, injured and orphaned seal pups at a purpose designed ‘hospital’ in a secluded seaside and woodland setting at Courtown Harbour.
According to Executive Director Melanie Croce, “Today we have 36 seals, but that number can go up or down from time to time, but we are always busy and seals in need of rehabilitation arrive here all the time.”
Visitors are welcome at Seal Rescue Ireland, with an extra special welcome for school tours where children are inspired by the seals and taught about marine life and ocean conservation through hands on learning. In the current climate when the future of our environment is under serious scrutiny this is a wonderful place to bond with the animals and mammals and gain greater knowledge and understanding.
The Visitor Centre is open every day, September to April, 10 am to 5 pm. The 24/7 Rescue & Info Hotline is 087 1955393 and for more information contact info@sealrescueIreland.org or www.sealrescueireland.org.
Reporter Dan Walsh and film-cameraman Finbar Flanagan visited Seal Rescue Ireland at Courtown Harbour and spoke with Executive Director, Seal Rescue Ireland, Melanie Croce, who explains how the charity works.
