There is never a shortage of thrills and spills at Lingstown races with the Killinick Harriers maintaining its famous ‘banks course’, however, Sunday’s six-race card will be enhanced in entertainment and support for a great cause with the addition of the Lingstown Charity Race which will be run as a seventh race!
The Charity Race is organised by Johnny (John P. in his racing days) Berry from Kilmore Quay in aid of Pieta House in association with ASK and there is amazing interest in the novel event – 47 entries and those that line up at the start will be veterans of the point-to-point scene in times past.
The task ahead will involve riding a circuit of the Lingstown track on the flat which will be about a mile and a half in length and the participants riding in the race will consist of point-to-point handlers and ex-riders which is sure to draw big interest to the fixture.
On the track the highlight will no doubt the Neville Hotels Open Lightweight Race over the Lingstown ‘bank’ fences where there is a good entry of 11 and many names are associated with the ‘banks course’ and some of them will end up competing at the Punchestown Festival next April.
Following an inspection on Friday Sunday’s going is described as “yielding to soft, heavy in places” and the action gets under way at 12 noon.
