Peamount Utd 2
Wexford Youths 3
Kylie Murphy’s second-half strike saw Wexford Youths retain their Só Hotels FAI Women’s Cup, this afternoon, in the Aviva, as they defeated arch-rivals, Peamount Utd, 3-2.
Wexford had a dream start in the 3rd minute, Lauren Kelly’s shot from outside the box totally deceived Niamh Reid-Burke, and left the Peamount keeper flat-footed, 1-0 Youths.
The game was all square after 32 minutes as Karen Duggan’s long-range effort found its way to the back of the net. Two minutes later the defending champions were back in front, again, courtesy of Lauren Kelly’s well-placed shot.
Peamount again squared the game in the 7th minute of the second half, but 12 minutes later, captain, Kylie Murphy, got on the end of a well-worked move to put Wexford back in front for the third time.
Two-goal hero, Lauren Kelly, was awarded the “Player Of The Match”.
