Tiernan Power Roche, Tomhaggard, and Michael Murphy who trains at Redbridge Stables, Duncormick, were the team in form at Dowth Hall point-to-point today where the recorded double success in successive races at the Meath venue this afternoon.
Better B Quick, a 13 years old bay gelding who was a winner at Tinahely a week ago, put in a splendid display for Roche and Murphy to gain a five lengths verdict in the Open race confined to novice riders.
Half an hour later and Dream de Dream put a double on the board for the Wexford raiders. This time it was much easier with 20 lengths spare.
The maiden race for four year olds was won by Fuego De L’Abbaye by two lengths in the colours of the Baltimore Stables Syndicate and a first winner of the new season for trainer Ellen Doyle of Coolgarrow, near Enniscorthy, and Inch rider Luke Murphy.
Kevin Corrigan from Blackwater was also a winning jockey. He was aboard Ryans Fancy in the Pat Coffey silks for trainer Denis Murphy of Ballyboy Stables, The Ballagh. They won the maiden race for five year olds and upwards by twelve lengths.
There was also point-to-point action at Knockinroe, Co. Tipperary, today and one Wexford winner. Ashtown Lad owned by Paddy Redmond, the well-known Gorey hotelier, trained at Craanford by Liam Kenny, and ridden by the trainers’ son, James Kenny, won the five year old geldings maiden race by an impressive 18 lengths.
