Muckross 3
Enniscorthy 2
A bright October Saturday afternoon saw Enniscorthy’s ladies 2nd XI travel to Donnybrook to take on Muckross 5ths in their third encounter in Division 11 of the Leinster League. The Slaneysiders knew it would be a tough contest with the home side currently top of the table.
From the get-go, the visitors found themselves under pressure as Muckross pressed high. The Dublin side were lucky to convert in the opening quarter from play.
From the start of the second quarter, it was the Slaneysiders who upped the pace and played the ball high up the pitch with a number of well-worked attacking plays from the midfield line. However, Muckross managed to score from play once again as a result of quick turnover.
Enniscorthy responded straight away, as a well-worked ball from Kelly made it to Frayne who hammered the ball into the goal to make it 2-1.
The intensity carried on through the third quarter where both teams battled consistently. Enniscorthy’s efforts were rewarded when a play involving Walsh and Dunne found its way to Frayne once again who deftly found the back of the net to level the game.
Enniscorthy had many chances in the final quarter, with both teams making a huge effort to stay in the contest. Ultimately it was the Donnybrook side who got the upper hand, converting in the final two minutes from a long corner, to make the final score 3-2. The Slaneysiders will hope to improve on this result as they face Avoca at home next weekend and to come back from two goals down augurs well.
